Mr. Aliyu is great at explaining and adjusting to my learning levels. After having a challenging time reading and pronouncing Yoruba he explained àmì ohùn (the diacritics we use to indicate tone) are like musical notes changing the tone of a word. It was such a lightbulb moment – suddenly, the tones made sense! I can now read nearly fluently. That's the thing about Mr. Aliyu – he always finds a way to make even the trickiest concepts easy to understand. He's been very open to any videos or interpretations I bring to "class" and we break whatever it is down, so its been more fun than just the core curriculum.

Honestly, my Yoruba has come so far thanks to him. I was recently complimented on my perfect pronunciation (of a song and phrases) all thanks to my classes. I'm now more confident to speak to native Yoruba speakers. He's not just a teacher; he's a guide, a mentor, and someone who truly cares about your language journey. In our classes Mr Aliyu will explain the language, the culture, the history, the Orisha, the geography, to ensure the context of the topic is well understood (this might not be as deep for others but I ask and I have an interest and he has been kind enough to provide this). If you want to learn Yoruba and have a blast doing it, he is simply the best.
