About Sunny

Hi there! I’m Sunny, and I specialize in helping students 'break the code' of middle and high school mathematics. I know that math can feel like a foreign language, but with the right mentor, anyone can become fluent.

With a deep background in Machine Learning and Robotics, I’ve spent years simplifying complex logic into actionable steps. I pride myself on being a reliable, punctual, and encouraging tutor who focuses as much on building a student’s confidence as I do on their grades. I’m here to ensure that when you walk into your next exam, you feel prepared, calm, and capable.

My approach is built on moving from abstract concepts to concrete intuition. I focus on three core pillars:

The "First Principles" Method: Instead of asking students to memorize formulas like the quadratic equation or trigonometric identities, we derive them. When a student understands why a formula works, they never have to worry about forgetting it.

Active Problem Solving: I follow the "I Do, We Do, You Do" model. I demonstrate a concept, we solve a mid-level problem together, and then the student tackles a challenge independently while I provide real-time, corrective feedback.

Visual & Computational Analogies: For complex topics like Calculus or Linear Algebra, I use visual aids and real-world analogies (like physics or data patterns) to make the math "visible."

A Typical Lesson Plan (60 Minutes)
Every session is structured to ensure maximum retention and confidence building:

The "Warm-Up" (5–10 mins): We review a difficult problem from the previous session or address a specific hurdle from their current school homework.

Concept Deep-Dive (15–20 mins): Introduction of the new topic using whiteboarding and interactive visualization. We focus on the "logic" behind the math.

Guided Practice (20 mins): We work through a series of increasing difficulty levels. I emphasize showing work and verbalizing the thought process to catch logic gaps early.

The "Challenge" & Wrap-Up (10 mins): A final, unassisted problem to verify mastery, followed by a summary of key takeaways and a preview of the next lesson.

What Sets Me Apart
Real-World Engineering Context: I don't just teach math as a school subject; I teach it as a language. With a background in industrial automation and data science, I can show students exactly how the algebra they are learning today powers the robotics and AI of tomorrow.

Strategic Exam Prep: I focus on time-management techniques and "test-hacking" strategies to help students overcome performance anxiety during high-stakes exams.

Adaptability: I customize my communication style to the student’s personality. Whether they are a visual learner who needs diagrams or a logical learner who needs proofs, I pivot my delivery to match their "wavelength."

Who the Lessons Are For
I provide specialized support for students across the following levels:

Middle School: Grade 6–9 Core Math, Pre-Algebra, and Early Geometry.

High School: Algebra I & II, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus (AB/BC).

Curriculum Specialities: Alberta Curriculum (Math 10-C, 20-1, 30-1/2, 31), IB Math (SL/HL), and SAT/ACT Math preparation.

Target Students: Whether you are struggling to pass, looking to bridge the gap between junior high and high school, or an advanced student aiming for a competitive university engineering or CS program.
