About David

I am a highly accomplished classical violinist and dedicated teacher with over seven years of experience guiding students of all ages and levels — from complete beginners as young as 4 years old to advanced players preparing for exams, auditions, scholarships, and conservatoire entry.
A graduate of the Royal College of Music (BMus, MPerf with Distinction, and Artist Diploma), I bring a wealth of professional performance experience to my teaching. I have performed as a soloist and in chamber ensembles at prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, and Royal Albert Hall. Recent highlights include winning the RCM Concerto Competition 2023 (performing Britten’s Violin Concerto with the late Sir Andrew Davis), and masterclasses with Maxim Vengerov.

My teaching philosophy centres on developing musical maturity, technical security, and efficient practice habits, while nurturing a deep love and sensitivity for music. I tailor every lesson to the individual student’s goals, interests, and learning style — whether you’re a young child exploring the violin for the first time, a teenager aiming for ABRSM grades and school scholarships, or an adult seeking personal fulfilment. Lessons combine strong foundational technique (posture, bow control, finger dexterity, tone production) with musical expression, theory, and creative elements to keep sessions engaging and effective.

About the lesson

I aim to personalise my teaching to the individual's needs/aims, with a flexible methodology. Planned ahead lessons, resources, and a regime/programme to suit anyone's needs and goals. One of my core principles is nurturing any and all musical interests. I have taught ages 7-65 and have 7 years of private teaching experience. A typical lesson can be from thirty minutes to an hour and a half.
