I am a British qualified primary school with 5 years experience. I have worked in the UK and the Middle East so have lots of experience with students who have English as an additional language. I prefer to teach through games and active learning rather than books and worksheets. This way children are not always aware that it is a lesson and it becomes more fun for them. Children having fun are far more likely to be engaged and retain the learning.
