About Sebastian
I am a British national and native speaker. I hold a Master’s Degree in Applied Linguistics & TESOL, and I am also certified in TEFL.
I have been teaching English as a second language for more than 10 years. I taught English in Japanese public schools for 6 years followed by 3 years in Singapore teaching at private schools. I now tutor learners of English from all over the world exclusively online.
I am highly qualified, experienced and enthusiastic to be a part of your English learning journey.

My main goal as a teacher is helping students learn how to communicate effectively in English. While good pronunciation and grammar is important, I feel that being able to express one’s ideas and opinions is the most vital part of learning a foreign language.
I do not use any textbooks in my classes. Instead, I focus on the natural use of English by creating meaningful situations. In all classes, the aim is to have you, the student, speaking as much as possible. I offer the following class types:
Guided Conversation
In this class, I will provide 5 topics, from which you will choose 2-3 for us to discuss. As this is “guided”, I will help steer the conversation using prepared questions for each topic. During this class, I will correct your pronunciation and grammar errors by typing them into the chat box for you to review and study after the class. Guided Conversation is ideal for students who are not yet fully confident in taking a Free Conversation class.
Free Conversation
In this class, we will talk freely about any subject that you wish. If you do not have a particular subject in mind, that is ok, I’m a great conversationalist! During this class, I will correct your pronunciation and grammar errors by typing them into the chat box for you to review and study after the class. The aim of Free Conversation class is for you to practice expressing your own opinions, using whatever language you are comfortable with. I will help guide you towards correct grammar and pronunciation, sentence structure and vocabulary. This is a no-pressure environment for you to explore and improve your language abilities.
Daily News
The Daily News class encompasses the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. For this class, you will study a recent news article. The lesson starts by checking the key vocabulary used in the article. You will listen to the article being read and then answer some written comprehension questions about it, after which you will read the article yourself. Finally, we will have a “guided” discussion relating to the topic of the news article. Again, I will correct your pronunciation and grammar errors by typing them into the chat box for you to review and study after the class.
Essay/Writing Help
Many students ask for help with their writing. It might be for a job or a university application. It might be for a newsletter or school assignment. I have even helped students write letters to their favourite singers and idols! If you choose this class, you will need to send me your written work before class. During the class, we will go through your work and correct any mistakes. Then we will work on improving your writing and making it the best it can be. Whatever your writing is for, I am confident that you will be pleased with the results.
