About Una

I am a Qualified Primary School Teacher (QTS), experienced private tutor and former private governess, specialising in 7+, 11+, English, maths, phonics, creative writing, comprehension and selective-school entrance preparation for children aged approximately 4–12. My approach is simple: identify the gaps, teach them properly and build the child's confidence along the way.

Why is my tuition affordable? I believe excellent tuition for children under 11 should be based on teaching expertise and a child's individual needs—not simply the university name on a tutor's CV or an exceptionally high hourly fee. I am a qualified teacher with practical classroom experience. I know how to assess a child's starting point, identify gaps in knowledge and understanding, and create structured lessons designed to close those gaps.

My current introductory rate is £20 per hour because I want professional one-to-one tuition to remain accessible to families. School fees, extracurricular activities and busy family weekends can already be expensive. I don't believe getting your child additional academic support should automatically mean paying £100+ for a single hour.

Affordable does not mean lower expectations. Every child I teach receives personalised tuition based on their individual ability, needs and goals. I maintain high expectations while creating an encouraging environment in which children can ask questions, make mistakes and develop genuine confidence.

About the lesson

Is your child approaching the 11+ and needing focused English practice? I’m a PGCE qualified primary teacher with QTS and experience tutoring children for selective school entrance exams. We will work through comprehension past papers, practise finding evidence and writing clear answers under timed conditions. We’ll also develop creative writing skills, from planning a story to improving description and structure. I’ll tailor the sessions to your child’s needs and give you clear feedback on their progress and what to practise between lessons. This course is designed to help your child use their remaining preparation time well and approach the English exam with greater confidence. Available online or in London.

Una has a great way of explaining things clearly and adapting her teaching style to suit my daughter’s level and individual needs, which makes every lesson feel comfortable and productive.

We were really starting to panic in the eight-week run-up to the 11+ exams last year, so we contacted an agency who placed us with Una, and we feel incredibly lucky.

Thanks to Una’s guidance and preparation, our child went into the exams feeling confident and well prepared and passed with flying colours. We’re extremely grateful for all her help and would highly recommend her to any family preparing for the 11+.
