About Taryn
I have been a primary school teacher for the past 8 years, working in London and have taught all ages from reception to year 6. I was Head of Maths for a few years and I have experience in teaching children with different educational needs.

I’m a big believer of concrete and real life application before abstract methods in all areas of Maths. I’ve also done a lot of work with developing breadth activities in line with the new curriculum.
For early reading, I teach phonics first and fast but then use real books to promote reading. With children who struggle with phonics, I work with flash cards and word games to improve word recognition. For more advanced readers, I focus on teaching inference skills, in line with the KS2 tests, using books as the basis for learning.
