About Ezra
My name is Ezra; I am 18 and I live in Bristol. I have recently finished my A levels at St Brendan's Sixth Form College. For my A levels I chose maths, further maths and philosophy and have been predicted (and achieved in the last set of mocks) A* in all three of them. Until recently, I had planned on taking maths and philosophy at university (even having interviews with Oxford for their maths and philosophy course) but have decided to follow my true passion of philosophy by studying pure philosophy at Exeter University. Despite not wanting to continue my maths education further, I still find it rewarding to practise the explanatory skills so essential for philosophy by helping others with their maths. In my free time I enjoy gaming, badminton and reading.

I offer 1 - 2 hour lessons on foundation and higher GCSE maths for students at any age and grade. In my first session I find it most helpful to discuss with my tutee which particular topics or techniques they would like to focus on and what their own methods of revision tend to be so I know how best to use the subsequent sessions. I have found past papers an invaluable tool in both past tutoring sessions and in my own maths revision as they both allow for identifying which topics a student is less confident in and develop exam technique. That said, whilst my standard lesson plan would involve working through a past paper with a student, I am also happy if a student wants to bring their own revision resources or wants me to find some more specific topic revision for them. This approach has proved successful both when tutoring students resitting their GCSEs at my college and when tutoring students outside of college sitting them for the first time.

I taught Ezra A-Level philosophy for two years and would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending him as a personal tutor. Ezra is a calm, intelligent, and very patient individual, with a clear capacity for explaining complex ideas in an accessible way. He is diligent in his preparations, honest in his approach, and also very easy to get on with (which helps when studying tough subjects!). Although Ezra is advertising as a maths tutor, he would also do a pretty good job with philosophy too I reckon - 100% recommended.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Ezra Roberts for any position relating to mathematics and teaching. In my role as maths Intervention Lead at St. Brendan’s Sixth Form College, I had the pleasure of observing Ezra grow significantly in confidence, subject knowledge, and mentoring skill throughout their time as a Peer Mentor.
Ezra volunteered for the Peer Mentoring programme, using their strong grasp of GCSE mathematics to support students resitting the qualification—many of whom had previously faced less-than-ideal experiences with both maths and formal education. In this role, he went above and beyond in offering academic guidance, encouragement, and practical strategies to help their mentee access the curriculum, understand key topics, and rebuild confidence in the subject.
What truly set Ezra apart was his ability to connect with their mentee on a personal level while maintaining professionalism and empathy. He demonstrated thoughtful planning, tailoring sessions to the student’s individual learning needs. By identifying gaps in knowledge and modelling how to approach mathematical concepts methodically, Ezra helped their mentee not only improve academically but also develop a more positive attitude toward learning.
Thanks to his consistent support and targeted intervention, the student went on to achieve a Grade 4 in GCSE maths—successfully unlocking access to their chosen A-level courses. This was a significant achievement, especially given the student’s initial reluctance to engage, stemming from previous negative educational experiences. Ezra played a key role in turning this around by building trust, encouraging attendance, and creating a supportive learning environment.
Throughout the programme, Ezra consistently demonstrated qualities essential for teaching and mentorship: strong communication, emotional intelligence, subject expertise, and a genuine commitment to helping others grow. I was continually impressed by his initiative, enthusiasm, and ability to make a lasting impact.
In short, Ezra would be a tremendous asset to any role involving education, mentoring, tutoring, or mathematics support. I recommend him without reservation.
Ezra has a relaxed and friendly, but professional approach to his tutoring. He clearly has a deep understanding of the complexities of Maths, from GCSE and far beyond. My son Ralph was very keen to better his predicted GCSE grade (3) so we called on Ezra. He was soon able to identify the areas for Ralph to focus on and understood straight away what his needs were. Over the next 4 months, Ezra confidently and clearly explained the methods and techniques for getting to grips with the more challenging GCSE topics, meaning Ralphs confidence grew each week. They practised past papers together, and covered a few topics each session. By the time Ralph took his final exams he was able to get nearly full marks on practise tests and was not phased by the harder questions. He learnt to work through the longer questions step by step and was really pleased after sitting each exam, quietly confident he will have increased his final grade to at least a 4 (C) - hopefully a grade 5. Thank you Ezra - you made a real difference!!
