About Umaiza
I’m a passionate musician with 8 years of experience playing piano and 4 years of experience playing flute and piccolo. Throughout my musical experience, I have had the opportunity to perform both as a soloist and as part of ensembles, giving me experience with both individual performance and collaborative musicianship.
I have experience teaching piano and RCM music theory, and I have worked as both a piano teacher and assistant piano teacher, primarily teaching children ages 4–13. Through teaching students at different ages and skill levels, I’ve learned how important it is to adapt lessons to each student’s pace, interests, and goals.
For beginners, I focus on building strong fundamentals in music reading, rhythm, technique, and music theory, while keeping lessons engaging and encouraging. For more experienced students, I can help develop their musical interpretation, performance skills, sight-reading, and theoretical understanding. I can also support students working through RCM theory material and help them develop a stronger understanding of the concepts behind the music.
Whether a student is learning their first pieces, preparing for an RCM goal, or simply wants to enjoy playing music, I tailor my lessons to help them progress while keeping music fun.

My approach to music is personalized, supportive, and focused on building both skills and confidence. I adapt my teaching methods to each student’s learning style, strengths, and areas for improvement, using explanations, examples, practice exercises, and guided feedback to help students understand concepts rather than simply memorize them.
A typical lesson begins with a learning the progress of the piece and/or looking over theory homework, followed by addressing any questions or concerns. Then we work through the next section of material and discuss exercises/examples that might help throughout the week. I finish each lesson by reviewing key takeaways and assigning homework for the next lesson.
