About Mahesh

About me

Hello, and thank you for visiting my profile. I am Dr. Mahesh Pillai, a Hamilton-based tutor in marketing and business, holding a PhD in Business Management, an MBA from the University of Sheffield, and over 14 years of international industry experience.

My doctoral research compared the marketing strategies of leading car manufacturers in India and Japan, and my published work focuses on the automotive industry. Outside academia, I have worked in India, Oman and the United Kingdom. This includes serving as the first Brand Manager appointed for Nissan’s light commercial vehicle business in Oman, where I led product launches, marketing campaigns and sales growth. I have also run my own business, working with major industrial clients.

This combination of academic training and real-world experience shapes how I teach. I explain theory clearly, show how it works in real businesses, and help you apply it confidently in assignments, exams and your career.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring

I teach marketing and business by connecting theory to real business situations. I hold a PhD in Business Management and an MBA from the University of Sheffield. I have also worked in industry for over 14 years, including as Brand Manager for Nissan’s light commercial vehicles in Oman, so I know how these concepts work outside the textbook.

Techniques and teaching methodology

Real-world case studies: I use examples from automotive marketing, B2B relationships, brand strategy and business operations, so ideas like positioning, segmentation and competitive strategy are easy to remember.
Learn by applying: we work through assignment questions, case analyses and exam-style problems together, so you practise using the models rather than just memorising them.
Clear structure: each lesson starts with your goals, builds understanding step by step, and ends with a short summary and next steps.
Academic writing and research support: I can help you plan essays, structure arguments, reference properly and understand research methods.
Tailored to you: I adapt the pace and focus to your course, your deadlines and the way you learn best.
