About Dr Gemma

Hi! I'm a university researcher with a PhD in Psychology and experience teaching psychology, research methods and statistics to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

I'm an Associate Fellow of Advance HE (AFHEA), a professional recognition for educators who teach and support learning in higher education.

My specialisms are Developmental and Clinical Psychology, but I'm confident across all areas of psychology, including research design and data analysis. I can also help you develop your academic writing, from structuring an argument, to critically evaluating evidence and writing up your results.

I teach in an interactive, activity-based way. We'll use real-world examples, critical evaluation, and theory to explore topics in a supportive environment, so you can work towards your own learning goals with confidence.

I offer a free introductory lesson, so do get in touch!

About the lesson

I'm passionate about education, and I want learning to be engaging and enjoyable. As a Teaching Associate for undergraduate students, and through my higher education teaching training, I use evidence-based techniques designed to help you understand ideas and remember them for longer.

My lessons suit undergraduate and postgraduate students at any level. After an initial consultation, I'll tailor each session to your needs, whether that's:

- Understanding difficult theories or concepts
- Planning a dissertation or research project
- Getting to grips with statistics (SPSS, R, or other statistical programs)
- Advice on essays, lab reports, and academic writing
- Revising for exams

Sessions usually last 1–2 hours, depending on your preference.

Perfect! I've been having regular lessons with Gemma and I can't recommend her enough! As someone with ADHD, she makes learning very accessible for me. She goes above and beyond, making quizzes at the end of our sessions to make sure I've understood properly, helps me with notes, creates flowcharts and schedules and is all-round makes me feel comfortable as she is easy to talk to and very friendly. On top of all this, she is very motivated, engaging and affordable. Honestly could not have asked for a better tutor - she is amazing!
