About Craig
I hold a PhD in Creative Writing and have a lifelong passion for literature and storytelling in all its forms. My specialisms include short fiction, character development, and sense of place — areas I believe are central to powerful and memorable writing.
I’m eager to share my knowledge and experience with writers at all levels, from students preparing for academic assessment to emerging authors refining their craft. My teaching is supportive, encouraging, and highly individualised, focused on helping each writer find their authentic voice while equipping them with the tools to achieve their creative and literary goals.

My lessons are designed to help writers of all levels strengthen their craft, develop confidence in their voice, and understand the deeper elements that make writing come alive. With a focus on short fiction, character development, and sense of place, I tailor each session to the individual’s goals — whether academic, creative, or professional.
Structure
Each session typically follows a balance of discussion, practice, and feedback:
Exploration
We begin with a discussion of your current writing, ideas, or challenges — identifying what you want to develop or understand more deeply (e.g., dialogue, atmosphere, structure).
Craft Focus
Targeted exploration of a key concept such as:
Creating believable and complex characters
Building atmosphere through place and setting
Structuring short fiction effectively
Writing with precision, rhythm, and emotional clarity
Application & Feedback
We work with your own writing or short exercises to apply what you’ve learned. I provide constructive, in-depth feedback and guide you toward refining your technique and artistic intent.
Reflection & Next Steps
We end each session with reflections, reading suggestions, and exercises to continue your development independently.

Every writer is different. My tutoring is individualised, collaborative, and encouraging, rooted in my experience as a writer and educator with a PhD in Creative Writing. I aim to build confidence, curiosity, and precision in each student’s creative process.
