About Tai

I want to tutor kids because of my motivation to help them improve their skills and inspire confidence in their own abilities. I have several years of experience coaching kids in sports and those have been some of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Nothing makes me happier than seeing the growth of a child when they realize they are capable of achieving something. My goal is to genuinely help each kid I work with improve their skillset to the best of my abilities.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is centered around making students feel comfortable asking questions, building their confidence, and helping them genuinely understand the material rather than simply memorizing it. I believe every student learns differently, so I adjust my teaching style based on their individual needs, learning preferences, and current level of understanding.

I typically begin a lesson by reviewing what the student already knows and identifying the areas where they are struggling. From there, I break complex concepts into smaller, manageable pieces and use examples, visual explanations, practice problems, and real-world connections to make the material easier to understand. I encourage students to work through problems themselves while providing guidance and feedback along the way. At the end of each lesson, I review the key concepts and make sure the student feels confident about what they learned.

What sets me apart is my combination of academic experience, coaching experience, and a strong interest in education. My background in energy policy has given me experience working with science, environmental topics, research, and complex information, while my experience coaching and directing sports camps has taught me how to communicate with different personalities, motivate students, and create a positive learning environment. I bring that same supportive and encouraging approach to tutoring.

I am comfortable working with elementary, middle, and high school students, particularly in science-related subjects. I can also support students with English, writing, study skills, and general academic support. My goal is not just to help students complete an assignment or prepare for a test, but to help them develop the confidence and skills they can carry into their future classes.
