About Isabelle

I’m Isabelle, a visual designer and educator with a BFA in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design. With several years of experience working across branding, digital media, and user-centered web design, I specialize in helping students and young creatives bring clarity and intention to their visual work. Currently, I’m a core mentor at Rockaway Design Consulting, a New York–based creative education collective that supports emerging designers in building standout portfolios for top design schools and careers in the arts. Through Rockaway, I’ve mentored students from high school to graduate level, focusing on portfolio development, typography, layout systems, and personal storytelling through design. My professional work spans client branding projects, web design, and editorial layout. I bring both industry knowledge and a passion for teaching to every lesson—empowering students not just to create beautiful work, but to understand the “why” behind every design choice. I look forward to helping you elevate your ideas into professional, polished visual stories.

About the lesson

As a tutor, I bring a thoughtful, design-centered approach to every session. My name is Isabelle, and I’m a Parsons School of Design graduate with years of hands-on experience in visual communication, portfolio layout, and website design. I teach by breaking down complex design concepts into clear, manageable steps that are both practical and inspiring.

**My teaching method is hands-on and project-based.** I believe students learn best by doing, so each lesson includes time for guided design exercises, visual critiques, and software demonstrations. I adapt my teaching style based on the student’s level, goals, and preferred learning style—whether you're applying to art school, creating a personal portfolio, or exploring graphic design for the first time.

**A typical lesson might include:**

* A review of your current work or goal
* A short tutorial (e.g. layout in InDesign, building a color palette, or UX basics)
* Real-time design feedback and collaborative iterations
* Homework or prompts to develop between sessions

What sets me apart is my dual experience as both a designer and a mentor. I not only help students improve technically, but also guide them in finding their own voice and visual language. I love seeing students gain confidence in their work and presentation.

My lessons are great for:

* High school and college students preparing a design or art school portfolio
* University-level students seeking feedback and refinement
* Emerging professionals looking to sharpen their design and layout skills
* Anyone curious about visual design or website creation

All levels are welcome! I create a safe, encouraging space for creative exploration and growth.
