About Ehansa

My name is Ehansa Rodrigo (FIDE ID: 9976132) and I am originally from Sri Lanka. I am currently based in Melbourne, pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. At 21 years old, I bring over a decade of passion and experience in chess, having played competitively since childhood. Throughout my school years, I was an active member of my school chess team, representing my school every year. After completing my schooling, I joined Kings Square Chess Academy in Sri Lanka, where I began my coaching career. I have had the privilege of coaching beginners in three different schools, helping young players develop not just their chess skills, but also their confidence, discipline, and strategic thinking. With my background as a chess player and a proven track record as a coach, I aim to make every lesson engaging, encouraging, and tailored to each student’s pace. Whether you are completely new to chess or taking your first steps in competition, I provide structured guidance, clear explanations, and plenty of practice opportunities to ensure steady improvement.

About the lesson

Teaching Techniques & Methodology
I start every session by building a strong foundation in the basics, ensuring students clearly understand core concepts before moving on to more advanced topics. To keep lessons engaging and interactive, I incorporate puzzles, mini-games, and fun challenges in every session. I also provide detailed notes after class so students can revise at their own pace. At the end of each session, I conduct a quick revision to reinforce what was learned, and I give practice puzzles as homework to develop independent thinking and problem-solving skills.

Lesson Duration
Each lesson runs for a minimum of one hour, with flexibility to extend if needed, depending on the student’s pace and enthusiasm.

Qualifications & Experience
I am a rated chess player with years of experience playing from childhood. I began coaching beginner players after almost a year of focused preparation, and I have since enjoyed helping new learners build their skills and confidence.

Who My Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed mainly for beginners who are passionate about learning chess. There is no age restriction — I work with children, teenagers, and adults alike, adapting my approach to suit each learner’s style and needs.
