About Andy
I am trained as a teacher in the Buddhist Geeks/Pragmatic Dharma lineage, completing teacher training with Vince and Emily Horn after working with them online and in virtual retreat over several years. Vince's social meditation strongly informs how I like to share dharma, as does Dan Brown's pointing out style of teaching, which I was deeply fortunate to experience on retreat.
I estimate I hit 10k cushion hours a few years ago, although quality trumps quantity. I encountered the four noble truths in high school and felt deeply moved, but didn't start practicing seriously until a bit more than ten years ago through a Goenka Retreat, by an offhand recommendation from a neighbor. Since then I have done a fair amount of solo/home retreat, as well as in-person/group retreat, dedicating time to learning mindfulness, concentration, awareness, heartfulness, inquiry, embodiment, and imagination. I took Bodhisattva vows a couple years ago, and I host meditation within my local community.
I practice massage for a living, and hence spend my time deepening somatic techniques, subtle/esoteric embodied approaches, etc. I've been doing that professionally for the last several years, and the decision to pursue this work was largely influenced by my dharma practice, and wanting to make it count. Other big influences on my practice are fitness and Olympic weightlifting, and language and literature--I have a Master's Degree in English, and my favorite sutta is probably the Vimalakirti Sutra.
Anything that strikes at the heart of the dharma, any earnest seeking, really gets me going, so give me a shout!

I use relational meditation to share direct experience, and I love nerding out on many aspects of dharma and contemplative technology. I used to flounder in meditation, spinning my wheels in the mud of dissociative, sour states, until I learned some cool ways to really be in this human body, and also the subtle body, and I'm passionate about sharing that.
Whether you are a committed practitioner or just dharma-curious, I would love to know what brings you to practice and how I can help. You might be trying to learn to concentrate, or attain jhana. Perhaps you wish to know yourself better and become more intimate with all facets of experience. You could be seeking to expand your mind and stabilize vast, spacious awareness. Maybe you want to open your heart and cultivate well-wishes towards all beings, or finally integrate all this stuff into this really special, big important world we need to not destroy.
Certainly, if you are just looking to be less stressed and more present in everyday life, I'd love to work with you.
I enjoy working with people for 1-3 months, meeting weekly or bi-weekly. Sessions can orient towards conversation and meditation, or real-time exploration of whatever is alive for you right now.
