About Jennifer

Hi, I’m Jennifer — a passionate math tutor, NYU graduate with a degree in Economics and Game Theory, and a current engineer at Salesforce/Slack. I bring a unique blend of analytical thinking, real-world experience, and genuine care to every session. With years of experience teaching middle and high school students, I’ve developed a personalized approach that meets each learner exactly where they are — whether they’re struggling with the basics, aiming for top test scores, or seeking enrichment beyond the standard curriculum. My lessons are structured but flexible, rigorous yet approachable. I focus on building deep understanding, not just memorization, so students gain both the confidence and the tools to succeed on their own. I’m especially skilled at breaking down complex concepts, identifying learning gaps, and making math feel logical, engaging, and even fun. I work with a wide range of learners, from those facing math anxiety to advanced students preparing for AP exams or math competitions. What sets me apart is my ability to connect real-world applications — like game theory, economics, and coding — to classroom topics, helping students see the bigger picture and stay motivated. Above all, I’m committed to creating a safe, supportive learning environment where students feel heard, challenged, and empowered! I'm looking forward to working with you!

My Approach as a Tutor: As a math tutor with a background in Economics and Game Theory from NYU and professional experience as a Salesforce/Slack engineer, I bring a unique, analytical, and student-centered approach to teaching. My method blends rigorous problem-solving with adaptive, tech-enabled strategies tailored to each student’s strengths, gaps, and learning style. Teaching Method & Techniques: I take a personalized, diagnostic-first approach. Every student learns differently, so I start by identifying their specific needs—whether it's foundational gaps, test anxiety, or simply boredom due to lack of challenge. Key techniques include: Conceptual Scaffolding: Breaking down complex concepts into logical, digestible steps. Socratic Questioning: Guiding students to discover answers themselves, encouraging critical thinking and long-term retention. Real-World Context: Incorporating examples from economics, coding, or everyday life to make abstract math feel tangible and relevant. Gamification & Strategy: Inspired by game theory, I introduce competitive exercises and strategy-based puzzles that make learning both fun and intellectually engaging. Data-Driven Progress Tracking: I use simple tools (like Google Sheets or Notion) to track growth over time and adjust the learning plan accordingly. A Typical Lesson Plan: Each 60-minute session follows a flexible but focused structure: Check-in & Warm-up (5-10 min): Quick review of prior material, mental math drills, or a fun logic problem to get the brain going. Core Lesson (30 min): Introduce or deepen a concept using examples, visual aids, and guided practice. Applied Practice (15 min): Independent problem-solving, word problems, or test-style questions to reinforce learning. Review & Reflection (5 min): Recap key takeaways, address confusion, and outline goals for the next session. Homework is optional, tailored to the student’s bandwidth—quality over quantity. What Sets Me Apart: Multidisciplinary Lens: I connect math to fields like economics, coding, and even behavioral science—making it relevant and empowering for students with broader interests. Tech-Enabled Learning: I use digital tools and platforms (like Desmos, GeoGebra, Notion, or even Slack for communication) to support hybrid or remote learning. Real Empathy, Real Results: Having worked with students across all levels—from struggling middle schoolers to gifted high schoolers—I adapt my tone, pacing, and material to meet them exactly where they are. Problem-Solving, Not Memorization: My students walk away not just knowing what to do, but why it works. I work with: Middle & High School Students: Grades 6–12, covering everything from pre-algebra to AP Calculus. Gifted & Advanced Learners: Looking to accelerate, prepare for math competitions, or explore topics beyond the classroom. Students with Math Anxiety: Who need a patient, confidence-building approach to reframe their relationship with math. Test-Prep Students: SAT, ACT, SSAT, or specialized high school exams—emphasizing strategy, timing, and high-leverage skills.
