About Carla
Hello everyone! My name is Carla, and I am a native Spanish speaker born and raised in Chile. I am moving to New York to study for a Ph.D. I hold a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in gender studies. I am passionate about travel and languages. I speak English fluently and I am learning Portuguese. I have many other hobbies and interests, such as reading, film, politics, history, and teaching. I am also passionate about Latin American history, culture, and music. I have been teaching Spanish for 3 years and have met amazing people helping them achieve their language goals.

English and Spanish Description:
As a language learner, I understand the difficulties and frustrations that occur when one tries to learn a new language. I have found that an environment where you can feel comfortable and make mistakes really makes a difference. For this reason, I am patient and understanding, which helps make my lessons engaging, productive and enjoyable. I believe that learning a language can be fun, so I will do my best to find a way to make Spanish interesting for you.
My experience:
I have had a different range of students, from beginner to advanced. I have also worked in diverse educational settings: online and in person; with a student and in a group. My experiences have taught me that everyone has different learning styles. For that reason, I use various teaching methods and materials to provide a complete learning experience. Some people need more structured grammar lessons, others interactive. I will structure lessons according to individual needs and interests.
Methodology:
I have created presentations of material in which we can review grammar, expand vocabulary, and practice speaking and writing. If you want, we can practice with a book. For advanced students, we can have conversations and practice writing. I can also provide feedback on your most common mistakes at the end so that you are more aware of them. I can correct your texts or essays.

Estructuraré las lecciones en base a las necesidades e intereses individuales de cada estudiante. Podemos discutir cualquier tema de tu interés para así mejorar y corregir la gramática, la pronunciación, y aprender nuevo vocabulario. No importa tu nivel de español, adaptaré la clase para ti. También puedo entregarte retroalimentación sobre tus errores más comunes al final de la clase para que puedas ser más consciente de ellos.
Como estudiante de idiomas, comprendo las dificultades y frustraciones que aparecen cuando uno comienza a aprender una nueva lengua. Por esta razón, soy paciente y comprensiva, lo que ayuda a que mis clases sean atractivas, productivas y divertidas. Creo que aprender un idioma puede ser entrenido, por lo que haré todo lo posible para encontrar una manera de que el español pueda ser interesante para ti.

Carla is a great tutor! I wanted to practice my spoken Spanish with her and she gave great social and political background on Chile as we spoke. Also, she is knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Understanding of the learning process!
One year ago, I knew about five words in Spanish. Now, after having lessons with Carla, I have completely expanded my vocabulary and can write, read, and converse in Spanish. Carla has an endless amount of useful tips for remembering grammar and vocabulary, and she is incredibly patient. She is also good with all levels of Spanish learners, and has different lessons and speaking activities depending on your level. I cannot recommend her enough! Signing up for a Spanish lesson with her is probably one of the best decisions you could ever make if you really want to improve your skills. I tell anyone I know who wants to learn Spanish to take a lesson with her!
