About María Eugenia

I'm a professional linguist native of Spain who enjoys teaching Spanish.

My professional background with a diversified population offers an experience as a linguist and educator. Translating and interpreting in the community has allowed me to understand a variety of accents to capture the essence and nuances of the language and has made me feel comfortable with the variation of the Spanish language and cultures from the different countries where this language is spoken.

I hold a college degree in International Business and Bilingual and Multicultural Education and have been working as a linguist and tutoring children and adults at different levels in the United States since 1994.

About the lesson

I mainly practice three different teaching methods that actually work for fluency depending on whether I am teaching an individual or a group class.

The first one is the Grammar Translation Method which focuses on the study of grammar, based on the texts that you are interested in, following translation. The second one, the Oral/Structural Method, its main focus is vocabulary and grammar control and the approach is a repetition system of grammatical constructions from simple to complex. Last is the Communicative Language Teaching Method, which personally I consider one of my most favorite methods for learners of Spanish and it's ideal for specific purposes and activity types. It provides total skill practice. Instead of focusing on partial skills such as learning phrases, a communicative approach will allow you to learn the 'whole picture'. Your ultimate objective as a learner is to take part in communication with others.
