About Andrea
Hola! I'm Andrea, a native Spanish speaker from Mexico and a graduate student in Communication Studies at San Jose State University, where I focus on how people communicate interpersonally and connect across cultures.
I hold a degree in Visual Communication Design from University of Guadalajara and I'm completing a master's program at the moment. Professionally, I've spent over a decade working across Mexico and the United States in design, research, and public health, collaborating with international teams.
I've also taught before: as a Spanish tutor in Montreal, an ESL teacher in Mexico, and an academic tutor across several subjects. Teaching is not new to me, and neither is meeting a learner exactly where they are.
What I offer is a rare mix: native fluency, professional experience in real workplaces, and formal training in how communication actually works. Beyond teaching Spanish, I think of my sessions as a TRANSFORMATION coach so you experience yourself in a new Spanish OS, bending reality through a new language.

Are you ready to practice in an IMMERSION setting? We role play, we have fun and learn by hands-on-deck, 80% in Spanish.
️My approach:
I don't teach Spanish from a textbook. I teach it the way you'll actually use it: by working alongside you on the real things you need to say and do. Think of me less as a traditional tutor and more as a bilingual coworker who happens to teach you Spanish while we get things done together.
My method:
Full immersion, built around your real deliverables. If you have a presentation, we build it in Spanish. If you're writing an academic text, an email, or a report, we work on it directly. We also practice across all four language dimensions: speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing, using diverse real-world scenarios so you're ready for anything from a professional negotiation to casual conversation. You learn by producing real work and rehearsing real situations, so the language stays with you. My background in Communication Studies means I focus on how you actually come across: tone, clarity, confidence, and cultural nuance, not just grammar.
A typical lesson:
We start with whatever is live in your world right now: a meeting you're preparing for, a document you're drafting, a conversation you need to have. We work through it together in Spanish, practicing comprehension and speaking through role-play and real scenarios, and I correct and refine as we go, explaining the why behind each correction so it sticks. You leave each session with something finished or improved, plus the language skills you built making it.
