About Jimena

I'm Jimena, a native Spanish speaker, communicator, and multidisciplinary artist originally from Peru, now based in Ottawa. I hold an Honors BA in Social Communication, and I've spent years working across writing, storytelling, and community education, including leading educational programs internationally and coordinating language and cultural initiatives here in Canada.

Beyond my academic background, I'm a published author with more than 66 works across fiction, poetry, and children's literature in both Spanish and English, which means I bring a genuine, lived love of language to every lesson, and a real appreciation for how language shapes stories and identity. I've also led theater, arts, and educational programs across Latin America and Canada, so I understand how to make learning feel warm, engaging, and personal.

I care deeply about creating a space where students feel comfortable making mistakes and genuinely excited to keep learning. Whether you're just starting out or looking to build real confidence and fluency, I'd love to guide you through Spanish in a way that feels natural, creative, and true to who you are.

About the lesson

My approach to teaching Spanish is creative and personal, we learn through art, music, and culture, guiding each lesson toward what you actually love. As a native Spanish speaker, published writer, and multidisciplinary artist, I believe language sticks best when it's tied to something meaningful, a song you enjoy, a story you want to tell, or a culture you're curious about.

A typical lesson blends real conversation practice with grammar woven naturally into context, often through short stories, poetry, or music I bring in based on your interests. If you love films, we might work through dialogue from a scene. If you're drawn to literature, we might explore a short poem together. I adapt each session to keep you engaged and genuinely enjoying the process.

What sets me apart is my background as a storyteller. I've led storytelling and creative workshops across Latin America and Canada, so I know how to make language learning feel alive. My lessons are ideal for beginners building a foundation, intermediate learners wanting to gain fluency and confidence, or anyone who wants to connect with Spanish through culture, creativity, and genuine conversation, whatever your age or goal may be.
