About Angelica
Hi! I'm Angelica, a native Mandarin speaker from Taiwan, currently based in Toowoomba, Australia.
I offer both in-person and online Mandarin lessons.
Before moving to Australia, I spent over five years teaching children's art while also working across art, design, and other creative fields. I also worked as an after-school tutor, helping primary school students with homework and supporting their learning.
Years of teaching have allowed me to continually refine how I explain ideas, design engaging lessons, and adapt my teaching to each student's learning style.

I believe language is more than vocabulary and grammar—it's a way to connect with people and culture.
My goal is to help students use Mandarin naturally and confidently in real-life situations—whether through listening, speaking, reading, or writing—while also developing a deeper understanding of Chinese-speaking cultures.

•︎︎Traditional Chinese & Zhuyin
As someone from Taiwan, I primarily teach Taiwanese Mandarin using Traditional Chinese characters and Zhuyin (Bopomofo), the writing and phonetic systems used in Taiwan.
-Traditional Chinese preserves the historical structure of many characters, making it easier to understand how they were originally formed and how their meanings developed.
-Zhuyin (Bopomofo) was designed specifically for Mandarin rather than adapted from the Roman alphabet. Many learners find it especially helpful for developing accurate pronunciation.
If you're interested in learning Taiwanese Mandarin through Traditional Chinese characters and Zhuyin, I'd be happy to help.
I can also teach using Simplified Chinese and Hanyu Pinyin, depending on your learning goals and preferences.

I grew up using Traditional Chinese characters (繁體中文) and Zhuyin (Bopomofo /Mandarin Phonetic Symbols), and I enjoy helping learners discover not only how to speak Mandarin, but also understand how the language works and why it feels the way it does.
With an academic background in English and experience using English in learning and communication, I understand many of the questions English speakers have when learning Mandarin. I like to explain Mandarin in a way that connects with an English-speaking perspective, without losing its cultural depth.
In my lessons, we can explore things like:
Why certain Chinese expressions don't translate literally.
The stories behind Chinese characters and radicals.
Wordplay, puns, and layered meanings in Mandarin.
Everyday Taiwanese Mandarin and natural conversations.
The culture and ways of thinking reflected in the language.
My goal is to help you enjoy learning Mandarin —not just memorizing it.
I believe language becomes much easier to retain when you understand the ideas and culture behind it.
