About Howard

I’m a native Mandarin speaker with a strong passion for language teaching and cross-cultural communication. I’ve lived and worked in Europe for over 8 years and in Shanghai for 30 years, gaining deep understanding of both Eastern and Western cultures. I have experience teaching Mandarin to international students and English to Chinese learners, helping them communicate confidently in academic and business settings. Before teaching full-time, I worked as a professional interpreter for high-level business and government meetings, including events with the Chinese Premier and senior officials from the UK Foreign and Business Departments. I believe language is a bridge between people and cultures — and I’m here to help you cross that bridge with confidence and joy.

About the lesson

My lessons are designed for adults and business learners who want to use Mandarin confidently in real life. Each class is customised to your goals — from daily conversation to professional communication, presentations, or HSK preparation. I focus on helping you speak naturally and accurately through pronunciation correction, tone training, and interactive dialogue. We’ll use real-world materials such as news, workplace scenarios, and cultural topics to make every lesson meaningful. You’ll not only learn vocabulary and grammar, but also the logic and culture behind the language. Step by step, you’ll gain confidence, fluency, and cultural understanding to communicate effectively in Mandarin.
