About Kristian

I grew up in Surrey, England, and am a native English speaker. I have a bachelor's degree in linguistics and psychology from UCLA, where I studied phonetics, phonology, grammar, and how people learn and use language. I have later worked professionally in language and language technology, including pronunciation, speech, and conversation design. I also have previous teaching experience, including teaching courses in creative writing in English. I have always been particularly interested in how English is actually spoken, not just the rules you learn in a textbook. With my background in linguistics, I can explain why something sounds natural or unnatural, and help you with everything from small pronunciation differences to how to express yourself more fluently and precisely. As a teacher, I am patient, informal, and committed to creating an environment where it is okay to make mistakes and ask questions.

About the lesson

The lessons are tailored to your level, your goals and what you want to improve at. I emphasize practical and natural English, with a combination of conversation, targeted exercises and concrete feedback. We can work on, among other things, spoken English, grammar, vocabulary, writing and pronunciation. For those of you who want to improve your pronunciation, I can also use phonetics and IPA (the International Phonetic Alphabet) to explain how English sounds are produced, as well as work on rhythm, intonation and British pronunciation. The lessons can also be adapted to more specific goals, such as school and studies, academic or creative writing, job interviews, presentations, English in the workplace or simply becoming more confident in conversation. A regular lesson lasts 60 minutes. The course is primarily suitable for young people and adults at all levels, from beginners to advanced. You who already speak good English but want to sound more natural or express yourself more precisely are also welcome.
