About Jess
I've been playing Violin since the age of 6, taught using the reputable Japanese Suzuki method. By 16 I had completed all 8 ABRSM grades, as well as Grade 5 in Piano, Singing, and Music Theory. I have continuously been involved in a huge variety of performance activities from chamber to orchestral, recent examples include playing First Violin in the Birmingham based Dolce Quartet, First and Second Violin in the CBSO Youth Orchestra and KCLSO Symphony Orchestra.
I also have experience with Irish Traditional music, taking part in various London based sessions and being employed by the Phoenix Theatre in London as a violinist for their bar entertainment.

As is most common with instrumental teaching, direct instruction of technique is what most of my teaching is based upon. I make heavy use of studies to develop specific techniques before starting a student on learning a piece or movement, as I teach based on the idea that a solid technical base makes for the strongest performances. Teaching in this way also allows me gain deeper understanding of an individual student's playing. Music is a highly individualised practice, and no two students or players learn and perform the same way, so this is vital.
