About Taylor
Hello!
I am a Graduate student at Austin Peay State University pursuing a Master of Music in Choral Conducting with an emphasis in Vocal Performance. I have completed a Bachelor of Music in Voice and Education Studies degree at DePauw University!
Despite pursing higher education, I find immense value in continuing my teaching career. Throughout my undergrad, I've been student-teaching undergraduate choirs (two SATB and SSAA), three Indianapolis Children's Choir groups (Kindergarten, High School, and Special Education), and private voice lessons to community youth. For professional development, I participate in professional and community choirs, attend music conference symposium, and present at summer conferences (2026 ICDA Conference presenter). I work in the summers as Music Instructors at various camps, and enjoy creating fun and engaging musical experiences for children and adults alike! Some of my favorite musical experiences would be participating in the high school All-State Honor Choir in 2021 & 2022, collegiate musical theater & opera productions ('The Addams Family' , 'Into the Woods', 'The Little Prince', and 'Gianni Schicchi'), and the 2025 Grand Teton Festival Chorus in Wyoming.
Throughout my extended time as both a student and educator of music, I firmly believe that highly relatable and playful lessons create highly capable musicians. I recall lessons and classes where I couldn't see myself in the content, on top of feeling invisible to the teacher, and these internalizations made me believe that maybe I didn't belong in music (seeing my history, we can tell how long that lasted!). From those moments, I discovered in my own growth as a singer and as a teacher that 'if you can laugh, you can learn'; this encourages us to show up as our authentic selves before we ever show up as 'performers' or 'singers'! I believe these experiences as a student, performer, and educator has given me incredible insight and knowledge that I can confidently pass down to any student. -“How do you run your lessons?”
From start to finish, my lessons embody one idea: progressivism. This is an educational philosophy bodied around the idea that students learn by active experimentation. I put this philosophy into motion from the very first lesson by setting goals, both short & long-term. Whether these goals pertain to sight-reading better, preparing for college auditions, or just simply wanting to sing better, there’s always something to work towards. I then work on warmups that eventually push vocal boundaries and lead to range expansion of a student. Depending on your intended purpose with lessons, we'll then work on a piece, talk about preparation, or do some fun sound-exploration exercises. We'll always end our lessons with addressing any and all moments of growth, any homework, expectations for the next lesson, and making sure you leave feeling capable and ready to make some more music!
-“Ok, well who are the lessons for?”
ANYONE!!!! K-12 to collegiate to adult voices! The human voice changes drastically at multiple stages in life, so I believe voice lessons can be a healthy outlet to address, fully understand, and take charge of these changes. From professionals to devoted shower singers, lessons are for whoever wants to sing!!
-"What would I even use these lessons for?"
Voice lessons serve a variety of purposes! For children, lessons are a great opportunity to explore their voice and what kinds of sounds they are able to make. For all of the songs they hear around them at school, the grocery store, in the car, lessons can help young children make sense of and encourage them to engage themselves in the musical world around them!
For adolescent students, lessons can help them in their choral classes, prepare them for collegiate/school auditions, create a healthy and growing range, or even keep them involved in something from week to week! Adolescence changes the voice heavily, and that impacts the way students can produce different sounds; likewise, voice lessons can be a great and consistent way to keep a student engaged with what's happening internally. For students who are actively pursuing musical opportunities (All-State Honors Choir, ACDA, musicals, operas, etc.), voice lessons are especially helpful in offering extra guided support. That super hard passage you just can't get? Maybe a pretty song you heard, but it's in a different language? Your school musical is coming up, and you just don't know how to prepare for your role? Voice lessons can answer any of these questions and situations!!
For everyone else outside of the K-12 categories... maybe your college's voice lessons are too expensive, maybe you're really wanting to kill it at bar karaoke next week, maybe you've taken a break from music, or have never sung before! Voice lessons can provide a simple but consistent route for ANYONE to begin guided exploration of their voice and building their musicianship.
-“Why are you offering these lessons?”
The instruction of voice lessons offers what being in a choir cannot. Taking voice lessons not only taught me more about my voice, but it also taught me self-regulation, discipline, and how to be curious. I feel that all of these benefits are extremely helpful in becoming a well-rounded musician and individual, hence why I am more than happy to teach these values and lessons to any student willing to learn!

Details
If you're still unsure about committing to lessons, I offer a free 45 minute sample lesson for us to meet, discuss your goals and wants in a voice teacher, etc.. This is only offered once per student.
As I am a graduate student, I offer a reduced price per hour to accommodate for the market and to make guided singing more accessible to anyone interested! If you want to commit to seeing what a month of lessons with me looks and feels like, I recommend purchasing a 5h package as that accommodates for one 1hr lesson per week, and another 1hr or two 30min lessons to be added at any point throughout the month! These lessons can be used to sing, learn repertoire, prepare for auditions (collegiate, shows, gigs), practice music literacy, or discuss all things related to music as a career! I am here for YOU and am committed to helping you reach your goals and aspirations as a singer and musician!!
