About Maja
I am a multidisciplinary artist from Tokyo, Japan who came to the U.S. to study art and design. I graduated from Los Angeles County High School for the Arts with a degree in fine arts, as well simultaneously working here independently as a freelance painter. After this, I then moved to London to further pursue my studies at UAL’s Central Saint Martins, studying fashion for my Bachelor’s degree. My primary mediums encompass classical techniques of oil painting, charcoal, graphite, pastel, and ink illustration. In 3D space, I work with clay, leather, wood, metal, and fabric for both garment construction and accessory design. This then led me to Paris, where I worked as a designer/stylist, which eventually brought me back to Japan to study traditional fabrics. Across the board, my work delves into surrealism and abstraction while still using classical rendering techniques and figurative narrative storytelling. I am currently back in Los Angeles, continuing to work across both the fine arts and fashion disciplines while still frequenting Paris and Tokyo for painting and fashion. I am eager to share what I know, and am equally in getting the privilege to hear the minds and nurture the talents of another:)

I am looking to share my studies in the hopes of teaching individuals interested in craftsmanship, technique, and design, as well as pushing creative thinking. My lesson plans can range from a more hands-on technical approach to one that follows a more process-based 'curriculum' that starts with an emphasis on concept and narrative.
As a tutor, I want to focus on individuals who are seeking to excel in their area of interest
-wanting to explore new techniques or conceptual curiosity
- support in crafting a professional-grade portfolio that can get them into their school of choice
-or simply wanting to delve deeper into a subject they are either familiar with or foreign to
