About Hazel
I am a medical & engineering graduate with a strong interest in the relationship between the human brain and language. I have participated in several research projects in this area and also have a solid background in linguistics, with a particular passion for comparative linguistics. In addition, I have rich experience helping international students in China learn Chinese. My lessons are never boring—they are engaging, fun, and full of interesting insights into Chinese culture (especially food, my favourite!). Teaching Techniques and Methodology: I use multimedia and diverse teaching aids, including text, images, videos, and slides. Since Chinese is a pictographic language, I emphasise visual learning to help students remember characters. I also focus on systematic Chinese phonetics to build a strong foundation in pinyin, especially tones, and integrate scientific linguistic methods into teaching. Typical Length of a Lesson: 50–60 minutes. Qualifications/Experience as a Tutor: Worked as a teaching assistant for Chinese courses during university and volunteered in a Chinese club, teaching international students.
