About Vishaan

I am a Mathematics undergraduate at the University of Bristol with a strong academic background in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, and Computer Science. I achieved six grade 9s and four grade 8s at GCSE, including grade 9s in Mathematics and Further Mathematics, followed by A* in A Level Mathematics, A in Further Mathematics, and A in Computer Science.

I have experience tutoring students in Mathematics and Computer Science, helping them build confidence, improve their understanding, and develop stronger exam technique. I enjoy breaking down difficult topics into clear, manageable steps and adapting my explanations to suit each student’s way of thinking.

I have also worked with young people through LifeLab at the University of Southampton, where I helped mentor sixth form students as part of a social media and health education team. This has strengthened my ability to explain ideas clearly, support students’ confidence, and communicate in a way that feels approachable rather than intimidating.

Alongside this, I have worked as an NHS Medical Receptionist, which has helped me develop strong communication, patience, organisation, and professionalism. I understand the importance of being reliable, prepared, and calm when working with people who may feel stressed or uncertain.

I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and gradually improving. My goal is to help students not only learn the content, but also feel more confident walking into exams.

About the lesson

My approach to tutoring is centred on building genuine understanding, confidence, and strong exam technique. I do not just want students to memorise methods; I want them to understand why a method works, when to use it, and how to present their answer clearly in an exam.

In lessons, I usually start by identifying the exact topic or type of question the student is struggling with. I then break the content down step by step, using clear examples before gradually increasing the difficulty. Once the student understands the idea, we move into exam-style questions so they can practise applying it under realistic conditions.

A big part of my teaching is helping students understand what the mark scheme is actually looking for. I teach students how to “explain to the examiner” through clear working, correct notation, and logical steps, so they can pick up as many marks as possible even on harder questions. I also focus on common exam mistakes, how to approach questions that look unfamiliar, and how to turn partial understanding into marks.

Typical lessons are one hour long, although I can adapt the structure depending on the student’s needs. Lessons may involve reviewing school content, filling gaps in understanding, practising exam questions, or preparing for mocks and final exams.

I achieved six grade 9s and four grade 8s at GCSE, including grade 9s in Mathematics and Further Mathematics. At A Level, I achieved A* in Mathematics, A in Further Mathematics, and A in Computer Science. I am now studying Mathematics at the University of Bristol and have experience tutoring students in both Mathematics and Computer Science.

My lessons are aimed at GCSE and A Level students who want to improve their understanding, confidence, and exam performance, whether they are aiming to secure a pass, move up a grade, or push towards the highest marks.
