About Sarah
I am a mathematics and science tutor with more than 20 years of experience. My background includes work as an environmental chemistry lab analyst and 15 years of homeschooling experience, where I developed a strong focus on individualized instruction, student-centered learning, and supporting students with executive functioning disorders in developing the skills and structure needed to be successful. Because every student has different learning needs, I take an individualized approach that adapts instruction, pacing, and support to each learner. My teaching approach is patient, clear, and supportive. I use scaffolding to break challenging concepts into manageable steps, the Feynman method to encourage simple and confident explanations, and a spiral approach to revisit key skills over time. This approach helps build connections between concepts, develop deeper understanding, enhance recall, and make steady progress.

Lessons are uniquely designed to suit the needs of the student's learning style. Students who are in need of foundational support often benefit from a scaffolding approach, where we can build the mathematical understanding from the basics to advanced topics. While others who are in need of specific concept review often benefit from a spiraling type of approach. Whether a student is a visual, auditory, or kinetic learner, they will all benefit from this style. Integrating visual examples with instruction and practice helps every student. Blending styles with the student's individual interests and life experience helps to personalize the lesson for a deeper connection and permanent retention.
Lessons will often follow a general outline of greeting the student, review of previous lessons, current concept, practice, and then a summary of the lesson. We will often spiral back to previous concepts covered to build a mental connection between math concepts. We will work through practice problems with assistance and then the student will be asked to explain back. This approach allows for connection between following steps and being able to articulate those steps.
This approach is very helpful for middle school students who are looking to shore up the foundation and for high school students who are looking to further their understanding for advanced concepts.

Sarah was an amazing tutor for my son Mark. She was patient and thorough all the while being very supportive. I would suggest you enroll and choose Sarah for your instructor.
Sarah has been working with my son for over three years, combining deep subject knowledge with real patience and clear communication. She breaks down complex formulas into simple, manageable steps and always explains why a concept works, building genuine understanding. She adapts her teaching style to keep lessons engaging and effective. Sarah is dependable, encouraging, and truly invested in her students. I recommend her without any reservations!
Sarah alone is a genuine woman with an amazing attitude. Sarah was my tutor for a couple of months and she was amazing !
Highly recommend Sarah! She helped our daughter Colette with honors math throughout middle school and into high school. While her focus was on Colette, Sarah’s tutoring lowered our overall family stress and tension related to math. Absolute gift!
Sarah tutored me for about 4 months as I was returning to university after 5 years of military service. She brought my math knowledge from a half forgotten high school level to being able to pass my pre calculus class with an A! She is very knowledgeable in her craft and is able to tailor her explanations to the student depending on how their brain works. Very personable and flexible too. She has been by far my best tutor I’ve ever had.
Sarah was my tutor for College Algebra and Pre-Calculus. I can't say enough good things about her! She is extremely nice and patient, and if she doesn't know the answer to a question off the top of her head, she will work "after hours" to find it! She really goes the extra mile to make sure you get the best tutoring experience possible. Highly recommended!
Knowledgable, patient, and reliable, she helped my grandson over the summer improve his grade by two letter grades in math.
Ms Sarah was very nice and helpful. She explained things simply with a lot of patience. By the end of the tutoring my son was able to bring his 7th grade math up two letter grades. He has always struggled with math, but she helped him to understand. I will definitely ask for her help again if needed for 8th grade pre-algebra.
