About Alex
I am a Linguistics major (poly-sci minor) at the University of Victoria in Canada. I can speak 3 languages, English, French, and Swedish, and am taking Latin and German right now. I participated in my high school's Mock Trial team for four years, winning awards for highest points and even Best Witness overall, and I have been nominated for Best Witness at State (and at Districts three times.)

I try to approach students by guiding them through their problems, and thus allowing them to figure out how to solve them through their own thought process. This makes it easier to solidify what you have learned in your memory, especially because it is spoken aloud.
English seems random and complex, but when you understand the fundamentals, the linguistics, behind it, it is much easier to comprehend. I believe that understanding language is not something that is dependent on natural skill. One's ability to speak and write (and learn!) language is dependent on two things: their understanding of linguistics as well as their reading habits. While linguistics can help you understand the inner workings of a language, reading is what allows you to see how to truly apply it to your own speaking and writing.
