• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  Music has been a part of my life since childhood. I started learning Hindustani classical music at a very young age, and over the years, it became more than just a subject — it became a way of expression and self-discovery. As I explored different genres like semi-classical, Bollywood, and fusion, my interest grew deeper. Understanding the techniques, emotions, and discipline behind every note inspired me to keep learning and sharing this beautiful art with others.

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  My biggest motivation to teach comes from the joy of seeing someone find their own voice through music. I’ve had wonderful mentors who shaped my journey with patience and guidance, and I want to pass that forward. Teaching allows me to not only share what I’ve learned but also help others build confidence and develop their unique musical identity. Every time a student improves or performs without fear, it feels like a shared victory.

• How does your work help society?

  Music is one of the most powerful forms of therapy and expression. Through teaching, I help students find a creative outlet for their emotions and stress. It builds patience, discipline, and confidence — qualities that go beyond music and influence daily life. In a larger sense, my work helps preserve our cultural heritage while also encouraging young people to explore music as a meaningful form of communication and self-growth.

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  My role model has always been Lata Mangeshkar ji — not just for her divine voice, but for her dedication, humility, and lifelong commitment to learning. She exemplified how discipline and passion can coexist beautifully. Her ability to express emotion so purely through her singing inspires me to not only teach technique but also to help my students understand the emotion behind every note they sing.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  Outside teaching, I enjoy composing small melodies, spending time in nature, and exploring new forms of music. I also love recording covers for my YouTube channel, which allows me to experiment creatively and connect with listeners. Apart from music, I enjoy reading, traveling, and capturing aesthetic moments that inspire new ideas for songs and performances.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  Once, one of my students who was very shy and hesitant to even hum in front of others, slowly built her confidence through consistent voice training and encouragement. A few months later, she sang beautifully in her school’s annual program and called me right after, almost in tears, saying, “Ma’am, I finally did it!” That moment reminded me why I love teaching — it’s not just about improving voices, but about helping people find courage and self-belief through music.
