About Taylor
My name is Taylor. I am a 29 year old musician and songwriter. I have written over 1000 songs, and probably more than 5000 unfinished songs. I am constantly coming up with new ideas. Some songs have begun from a melody that I sing walking around the house. Others are inspired from a few notes on a guitar or beats on a drum that captivate me. Some begin as gibberish, and others begin as a phrase or idea that is very meaningful to me. Some are happy and others come from sadness or anger. I have written songs on receipts, notebooks, the notes app of my phone, and some songs I have even "written" off of the top of my head, line by line into recording software, whose words have no physical trace of a written form. I have recorded songs onto portable cassette studios, digital studios on a phone or computer, and even professional recording studios with millions of dollars of equipment at my disposal. No matter how these songs are written or recorded, I am always pleased with the process, and it is a great feeling to have a song that I can play for myself or others. It is an art form that has brought me much joy and my time spent doing it is always positive and productive, even on the days that the words don’t come together so quickly. I am motivated and inspired to help others in discovering the beauty and ease of songwriting, so that we can have more people in the world making great art and expressing themselves in healthy and positive ways.

Have you ever wondered how songs are made? Are you a singer or instrumentalist and want to learn how to sculpt your talent into a finished song? Have you ever sang words while having a silly conversation with a friend or family member and thought, "hey this could be a great song!"? Or are you simply a creative person that has a story to tell and wants to turn your feelings into something that can be heard and understood by any listener in about 3 minutes?
As your teacher I will make it my goal to meet you where you are at and form a personalized lesson plan that will help you achieve your goals as a song maker. From learning more about the craft that has led to popular songs we all sing and dance to, to becoming a hit songwriter, these entertaining and eye opening lessons have something for everybody, with lessons that are very open ended, the same way that songwriting itself is. We can either learn by analyzing your favorite songs, or we can work with material you’ve already written to perfect it. My beginner students typically begin by learning song structure. From there we begin exploring chord structures and theme structures. We will be learning about rhyming and story telling, and we will explore the voice: pitch, delivery, tone, etc.
More advanced students can opt to learn technical aspects of music like recording software, music theory, advanced vocal techniques, or even guitar or piano, to evoke feelings not only with words but musical structure and chord/ note changes. Whatever kind of songwriter you wish to be, you can always sharpen the tools in your kit. Songwriting is a very open ended and creative path, and there is always more to learn and discuss as you go deeper on your song journey.
