About Valentina

I am a third-year PhD student in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. Although I am originally from Italy, I completed all of my university education in the UK, giving me an understanding of the British education system and the challenges students can face while learning.

Alongside my full-time research, I am passionate about teaching and science communication. During term time, I teach laboratory classes and tutor undergraduate students in Biology and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. I also enjoy public engagement and regularly take part in outreach activities with Diabetes UK to help make science accessible to a wider audience.

I believe that anyone can understand biology when it is explained in the right way. My teaching style focuses on breaking down complex concepts into simple explanations, helping students build confidence and develop a genuine understanding rather than just memorising facts. My goal is to create a relaxed, supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and enjoy the learning process.

About the lesson

My lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, whether they are preparing for exams, improving their understanding of difficult topics, or building confidence in biology. I explain complex concepts in a clear and engaging way, using diagrams, practice questions, and real-life examples to make learning enjoyable.

I tutor students from high school through university level, covering subjects including cell biology, molecular biology, genetics, immunology, physiology, biochemistry, and biomedical sciences. I provide support with coursework, laboratory reports, scientific writing, and exam preparation.

As a third-year PhD student at the University of Edinburgh, I combine current research experience with years of teaching and demonstrating practical laboratory classes for undergraduate students. I aim to create a supportive and interactive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and can progress at their own pace.
