About Melissa

I earned my master's part-time taking day classes for 3 years, while simultaneously working evenings as a copy editor/writer at the Bangor Daily News. By 2004, I was teaching adult students at Bangor, ME-area colleges such courses as college writing, persuasive writing, research and literature, and media ethics: Students learned to write what they wanted to write, when they wanted to write it! One student even got published!

About the lesson

As a published writer, I'll share examples from 20+ years in journalism, book writing and publishing, in this fun and judgment-free class! You're never too old or inexperienced to learn how to say what you want to say, when you want to say it, and achieve your goals: get a promotion -- buy that new car! We'll begin by writing brief essays. Those short stories, about what you already know, will give voice to your goals and ambitions! While reading your piece aloud, you will power your prose toward action! Be the author of such subjects as your hometown highlights, a favorite vacation venue, or even a memorable meal. Then we'll get into structure, which will help you balance your message, so that it eases your words into your reader's eyes and ears!
