About Maria
Portuguese violist, Maria João Antunes is currently finishing her last year of Postgraduate Master in Music at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, UK.
Maria has been studying modern viola with Dr. Louise Lansdown and baroque viola with Kate Fawcett.
Throughout her studies, Maria has been working as a freelance musician. She participated in many orchestral projects, including CBSO Orchestral Scheme, Birmingham Royal Ballet Scheme, Norte Orchestra, Miagi Orchestra, and Kiderminster Festival Orchestra and performed around Europe in many different venues including The Royal Concertgebouw, The Konzerthaus Berlin, The Elbphilarmonie, Yehudi Menuhin Hall and Birmingham Symphony Hall.
Maria works as a violin and viola teacher at Birmingham Services for Education and at Arco Project where among instrument individual lessons, she has been leading the chamber music distance learning programme.
Maria had the opportunity to play the Premiere “Limb” with with Hallam Sinfonia. Most recently Maria won the First Prize of Lemington Spa Competition, and performed the Dvorak Piano Quintet at Birmingham Symphony Hall.
Passionate about Chamber music, Maria collaborated with Hermes Chamber. She is a founding member of the Impetus Trio and she performs with Ensemble La Notte frequently.

I am a professional Violin and Viola player.
Currently as a freelancer, I split my time between Portugal and United Kingdom where I work with different orquestras and ensembles.
I am a violin, viola and ensemble teacher. I work at Services for Education and at "Arco" project - Birmingham, UK.
Very experienced in providing violin and viola individual lessons. All ages and abilities (from beginners to 8th grade), are welcome, whether you are studying for an exam or preparing an audition, if you are a new learner or just looking to play for fun.
I work with different methods such as Suzuki, Kodaly and Eta Cohen and I am experienced preparing pupils for ABRSM/Trinity exams or similar pathways.
A good balance between discipline and comprehensive/versatile tuition focusing on improving technique is provided accordingly with each student interests.
