About James

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been a private tutor since 2008, teaching acting, LAMDA Exams, Drama GCSE and A-level, English, Maths and Science.

Acting teaching credits include preparing students for drama school auditions and developing appropriate skills to deliver both classical and contemporary text. This involves breaking down the text to decipher meaning and voice and body warm ups in order to prepare vocally and physically for an audition.

Workshops taught include 'collaboration' at a Conservatoire for Dance and Drama workshop, as well as workshops on 'Creating Character from the Outside In' and 'Actioning Text' at OUDS (Oxford University Dramatic Society).

I have taught Stage Combat at LAMDA and Guildhall, and have assisted at ALRA, MTA and the Summer School course at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

Teaching public speaking, I have prepared students through instruction with breathing techniques, vocal warm ups, accent reduction and relaxation methods for dinner and wedding speeches as well as for LAMDA Exams.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

From 2005-2008, I read Archaeology and Anthropology at Magdalen College, Oxford.
I have been tutoring privately since leaving Oxford in 2008, in subjects including, Acting, Drama, English, Maths and Science, to name a few.

Subsequently, between 2010-2013, I gained a BA (Hons) in Acting LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). Alongside acting professionally, I undertook training in teaching stage combat, and am a probationary teacher with the BADC (British academy of Dramatic Combat).

- How much do you charge?

All one-on-one classes are £40 per hour, unless otherwise agreed.

- Where do you teach?

Classes can take place either in Acton or Chelsea, although it may be possible to travel to your home, timing permitting.

- When are you available?

There is a degree of flexibility with timing, so please specify whether you would prefer morning, afternoon or evening slots and I will see what I can do to accomodate.
