About Filip
I have a PhD from Brown University (and an MA, too). I am a world-class educator, who is taking a break from academia to be a parent! I'm an enthusiastic, passionate, and engaging educator, who naturally connects with students. My greatest strength is getting language learners to spontaneously and comfortably converse, in a fun and encouraging environment.

I build dialogues with my students, so that they can practice the skills that they need to succeed. I don't want students to have a mechanical understanding of the language that they are learning. I strive for a more natural form of expression, and give speakers the opportunity to find their own style. Generally, I like to let the students take the initiative in guiding their own learning pattern. So, for example, if there is an area, topic, or theme that they want to focus on, I tailor my approach to suit their interests, and intensely help them meet their goals. I'll break down their topic into 5 learning blocks of 10 minutes, for a 60 minute session (with 5 minutes of warm up, and 5 minutes of cool down). Obviously, I change my learning block for shorter timeframes (i.e. 30 minute sessions). If they are visual learners, I'll try and use images, and if they are pure conversationalists, then I meet their needs. In the past, I've worked with and hosted international students from China, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Brazil, Ukraine, and Romania. So, I have a keen sense of language acquisition, and my method seemed to resonate!
