About Dogan

Hello, I'm Doğan, an internationally renowned Mathematics Educator specialising in virtual learning. Doğan hocayla AP Calculus sınavına hazırlanıyorduk. Doğan Hocayla iki buçuk ayda inanılmaz bir ilerleme gösterdim. Konular hakkında biraz birikimim olsa da AP soruları hakkında hiçbir bilgim yoktu. AP sistemine alışık değildim hem de derslerimi Ingilizce görmüyordum. Gerek akademik(Calculus) gerek moral anlamında bana çok destek oldu. Eksiklerimi belirlememde ve eksiklerimin üstüne gitmemde de çok yardımcı oldu. Gerçekten Doğan hoca ile çalışmasaydım AP sınavından geçebilecek bir puan alamazdım.

Mr. Doğan and I were preparing for the AP Calculus exam. I've made incredible progress in two and a half months with him . Although I had some background on the issues, I did not recognize the AP questions. I wasn't used to the AP system, and I didn't see my classes in English. He was very supportive of me both academically(calculus) and morally. It helped me to identify my shortcomings and to get on top of my shortcomings. If I hadn't worked with Doğan teacher, I wouldn't have even gotten a point to pass the AP exam.

When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?
I have been giving private lessons since 2008. I started while I was a university student.
Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).
I love teaching advanced mathematics to students. I enjoy getting the students' feedback on how they overcome the subjects that they think are scary or challenging after working together. I have no subject that I like less. There's no such thing as a difficult subject; only insufficient effort.
Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?
I am always impressed by the people who have achieved something in difficult times. One of them is Charles Bukowski. He wrote his poems while working night shifts in a post office. I was really impressed by that when I learned it.
What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?
This is a multivariate question but The thing I care most about is concentration. I believe that if you keep your focus on something, you can master it.
Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.
Once a 6th-grade student asked me a question that even maths experts don't agree on. I felt challenged a lot while trying to explain it. Getting such a question from a student of that age was surprising, and trying to explain it was a challenge. But it made me very happy to see how curious he was.
What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?
Like everyone, I have faced many difficulties. One was that in university I struggled to organize myself and follow up on lectures. I was able to overcome this afterwards with practice.
Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?
My hobbies include playing the guitar and shooting short movies. I endeavour to improve myself and become professional in these fields.
