About George

As stated, I organise and co-ordinate the history intervention session at my current place of work in a SEND provisional school which requires intense, careful, and meticulous planning and effort to learn about my students and tailor the lessons to them to get the best level of engagement from them.

Whilst I have an incredible passion for history and teaching people about it, my biggest strength is undoubtedly my range and versatility when it comes to different periods of history. It is quite hard for me to find at least one time in history that I don't have at least the slightest interest; it is also hard for me to not know at least one fact about all periods but failing that it would be most difficult to see me not at least try to find something out about it.

I believe my passion, experience, happy personality, and versatility in this field allow me to deliver helpful, informative, and enjoyable history lessons.

About the lesson

After having gone through GCSE'S, A-Levels, university for an undergrad degree, and a masters now working in a SEND provisional school, I have seen a huge plethora of methods and I have taken inspiration from all levels of the teaching pyramid.

Whilst I do have a lot of text on some of my PowerPoints, I will always explain the final detail and will always try to relate it to something a student has an interest in so they can relate and further engage with the lesson.

Typically I have around 8 slides for a session with texts and images that I take the students through. I will always allow questions and conversations to happen alongside this so the student doesn't feel like a zombie digesting information. These are often accompanied by multiple videos of cartoons, other explanation videos to aid my teaching, and real footage/images whenever they can be viewed; i.e. real war footage of World War Two. There is also always some form of written task at the end to track progress, this may include minor tasks such as word searches, spelling tests or more advanced end-of-unit quizzes or even practice exam questions to really be challenged.

These lessons are not aimed at anyone specific in mind, just any and all who wish to learn about any period of history at any level as I am very flexible and can adapt to suit a student's learning. One note I will add is that these lessons may help those who perhaps liked the idea of studying history but struggled due to their teacher!
