About Mackayla
Hello, I am a high school senior with a deep passion for advanced STEM, currently taking advanced coursework in Calculus three and Organic Chemistry.
When not in the classroom I am researching the cosmos, mentoring younger robotics students (age: 9-14), programming competitive award-winning robots, or unwinding with a good mystery book.
As a tutor my goal is two sided, to be your strongest advocate mastering concepts, and to foster a supportive environment that prioritizes your wellbeing. As no math equation or chemical reaction is more important than your health.

Mission:
I help middle school and high school students build long-term confidence and academic independence. Beyond mastering course content, my focus is on extending resources and supports to students for healthy study habits, active recall strategies, calculator mastery, and mental math techniques that serve them well beyond our lessons.
Methods/Techniques
1. Relatable Guidance: I share effective study strategies (I have used), real world examples, and how to avoid common academic pitfalls (ones I have faced and others).
2. Dual Calculator Mastery: Direct instruction/practice on both physical handheld calculators and official online test calculators (Desmos/SAT/ACT formats) so students feel fully prepared.
3. Mental Math Skills: Developing speed and confidence with mental strategies and handwritten calculations for when calculators are unavailable/not allowed.
4. Targeted Resources: Custom practice materials and tools for continued review after each session.
Lesson Structure (60 minutes):
1. Goal Setting (5 mins): Clarify the student's focus areas, target topics, or questions for the day.
2. Interactive Concept Review (15-20 mins): Walk through key concepts, step-by-step notes, and worked examples together.
3. Guided Practice & Instant Feedback (20-25 mins): The student attempts problems on their own with real-time feedback to reinforce understanding.
4. Wrap up (5-10 mins): Answer final questions, recap key takeaways, and assign practice resources for independent study.
