About Barry

I'm a HEMS Critical Care Paramedic with a genuine passion for teaching the next generation of clinicians. I've worked in frontline ambulance care since 2012, qualified as a paramedic in 2016, and now practise at critical care level with a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service, so the knowledge I teach comes from real, current clinical experience.

What sets me apart is that I'm a trained educator, not just a clinician. I hold a PGCE in Clinical and Medical Education and have worked as a Clinical Tutor and Mentor/Practice Educator, supporting student paramedics through their placements on the road. I understand how people actually learn, where students typically struggle, and how to turn confusion into confidence.

I'm HCPC-registered, professional, and reliable, and I take real pride in being approachable and patient. There's no such thing as a silly question in my sessions. My goal is simple: to help you understand the material deeply, pass your assessments, and feel ready for practice.

About the lesson

My approach:
I'm a HEMS Critical Care Paramedic and a qualified educator with a PGCE in Clinical and Medical Education, so I bring both frontline clinical expertise and real teaching method to every lesson. I tutor the way I wish I'd been taught: clear, practical, and built around how you actually think on the job. Rather than just memorising facts, we connect the science to real clinical reasoning, so it sticks and you can apply it under pressure.

Every student is different, so I start by finding out where you are and what you're aiming for (an exam, an OSCE, a placement, or just confidence), and we build a plan around that. Lessons are interactive: we work through cases and scenarios, talk through your reasoning, and I give honest, supportive feedback. I break complex topics (cardiac, respiratory, pharmacology, A&P) into small, manageable steps and use real-world examples to make them click.

What I cover:
Paramedic science, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, clinical reasoning and decision-making, JRCALC and assessment frameworks, and OSCE/exam technique.

Lesson length and format:
Lessons are online and typically 60 minutes, though I'm happy to do 45 or 90-minute sessions to suit you. One-off sessions for a specific topic or exam, or regular weekly support, both work well.

Who it's for:
Student paramedics (university and Access to HE), newly qualified paramedics consolidating their knowledge, and postgraduate or CPD learners. Whether you're preparing for an exam, struggling with a tricky module, or building confidence for placement, I can help.
