Hello, my name is Philippa and I have been an ESL teacher for just over 2 years. I was born in London and completed my degree in sociology from the University of Durham in 2009. I have an TEFL 160 hour certificate that I gained in 2019.
Since then I have worked as an online teacher for Whales English and Palfish.

I enjoy the challenge of teaching all different children and I always adapt my teaching style accordingly. I make sure to have fun props and rewards in my classroom as it is a great incentive to learning, and I am an energetic and enthusiastic teacher. No two days are ever the same in ESL teaching, and there is so much joy in getting to know students over time, and to see their progress is wonderful.
I tailor each lesson according to the student, bringing props and rewards that I know the student will like. I like to sing in class, as I find it adds interest and can help with learning pronunciation. I find that vocabulary is so much easier to learn when talked about in relation to the students life, so I like to really get students involved with the curriculum, asking questions and challenging the student to improve conversation skills. Above all, I make sure I create a good connection with each student as I feel this is a vital first step in ESL teaching.
