About Atef

I have been a music teacher since 2004 at Maya school then at the Constantine Conservatory since 2006, where I taught classical guitar and flute traversière, and I had the chance to learn in parallel the basics of Oud with the master Nehad El-Sayed in Beit el oud, since then I have continued to evolve as an autodidact by being inspired by other masters of the same instrument such as naseer shamma, anouar brahem, rabih abou khalil ... and several musical styles from several regions of the world like Chaabi, Kabyle, Gnawi, Celtic, Turkish, Peruvian, Armenian, Persian music ...

My method consists in learning the Oud in an intuitive way, which boils down to:
_ The discovery of the instrument, while progressively understanding its physical structure, its dimensions and its different parts.
_ The holding of the Oud and the search for a better posture of the learner which allows him to have an ergonomic position with his instrument and to be able to begin to discover its different sounds.
_ Explanation of the role of each hand in playing techniques:
Right hand (for right-handed people): holding the Richa (plectrum) and plucking techniques.
Left hand: position of the fingers on the neck of the Oud, introduction to the notion of tone with applications on chromatic notes.
Coordination and synchronization of the movements of both hands, with finger independence exercises.
_ Introduction to music theory and the structure of the major scale, locating the notes on the neck of the Oud with application to the C major scale, for this we use the tuning (from high to low): F Do Sol Ré La Fa
_ Continue to learn the different notions of music theory: musical scales, silences, alterations, orders of sharps and flats, rhythmic reading ... until the study of scales and musical modes while applying on the instrument with simple variations around their basic structures, then by practicing on melodic lines of small musical pieces.
_ Introduction to the notion of quarter-tone and oriental modes,
_ Studies of oriental playing techniques with the right hand (for right-handed people) which allows to obtain clear and precise notes, a fluid movement some "Richa" between the strings and a good enough mastery of the sound volume to be able to nuance your playing.
_Studies of the different techniques of the left hand to also be able to nuance the sounds of the notes and play quite clear appoggiatures and glides .
The training will evolve in the same way for more advanced levels, ie always in theory / practice duo.
Thank you for your attention and have a good start to the training
Sincerely, :)
