About Joshua S

My name is Joshua Miller. I am 23 years old and study economics at SDSU. I was born in Madrid, Spain, and grew up speaking Spanish with my mother and friends. I became fluent in French in about 6 years, so I understand the intricacies of learning a new language. Through my studies, it is clear that the only way to learn is to push yourself but also to have an able teacher who can provide the simplest route to becoming fluent. I will give you all the tools you need so that you can put in the work to improve! From a brand new Spanish speaker to a semi-fluent speaker, I can help you refine your skills!

About the lesson

First, I would like to get to know you; let's find out what your goals are and what your level is. If you already have a grasp of the language but simply want to practice speaking a couple of hours a week, I can take notes on our conversations and give you pointers and suggestions. I have done this practice through out the years to not forget my French and it works wonders!
If you are completely new to the language, we will start from the basics:
At first, it is all about expanding vocabulary. Learning all the fundamentals is key to being able to mix it all together! For example, the first weeks could look like this:

Day 1-3: Basic Greetings and Expressions
Learn common greetings, farewells, and polite expressions.
Practice simple dialogues.
Day 4-7: Numbers, Colors, and Common Objects
Focus on numbers, basic colors, and names of common objects.
Create flashcards for practice.
Week 3-4: Basic Grammar
Day 1-3: Pronouns and Verb Conjugation
Learn subject pronouns and basic verb conjugation (present tense).
Practice forming basic sentences.
Day 4-7: Articles, Nouns, and Adjectives
Understand gender in nouns, definite and indefinite articles.
Practice using adjectives with nouns.
Week 5-6: Listening Comprehension
Day 1-3: Simple Conversations and Audio Materials
Listen to simple conversations and audio materials.
Focus on understanding the context and key phrases.
Day 4-7: Podcasts and Beginner Videos
Explore beginner-friendly podcasts and videos.
Listen actively and try to identify words and phrases.
