I believe, we all understand things when we actually apply it in our day to day lives. I simply use layman terms and 'day-to-day' examples. Simplicity in language, use of common things / examples, use of regular terms, this is the key. Sometimes we all know the language however we are not just aware of it. A tutor needs to route that knowledge in specific direction, so the student understands it more profoundly.
