About Katy

I am a passionate English teacher and ex Head of English who genuinely loves literature and helping students discover confidence in their own abilities. Reading has always been a huge part of my life, and I love being able to pass that passion on through my teaching by helping students engage with texts in a meaningful, enjoyable and accessible way.

One of the most rewarding parts of tutoring for me is seeing students make progress not only academically, but personally too. Watching students grow in confidence, begin to trust their ideas and feel proud of their achievements is something I care deeply about. I believe a positive relationship and supportive environment are just as important as strong subject knowledge.

Outside of teaching, I’m an avid music fan and a proud 6 Music aficionado, always looking for new artists, gigs and albums to obsess over. I’m also a mum to a baby girl and two very spoilt little cats, who definitely think they run the house!

About the lesson

My lessons are carefully tailored to each student’s individual needs, strengths and academic goals. As a qualified secondary English teacher and ex Head of English, I specialise in helping students build confidence, strengthen essay writing skills and achieve excellent exam results at GCSE and A Level.

I take the time to genuinely get to know each student so that lessons feel supportive, engaging and personalised. I have extensive experience working with students with SEND, SEMH needs and neurodivergent learners, and I adapt my teaching style to ensure students feel understood, encouraged and able to succeed in a way that works best for them.

I am meticulous in tracking student progress and use assessment data, regular exam practice and targeted feedback to plan highly effective lessons that address gaps and accelerate improvement. Students receive personalised revision support, structured exam preparation and step-by-step guidance on essay writing, analysis and exam technique to help them feel fully prepared and confident.

I maintain strong communication with parents, providing regular updates on progress, areas for development and next steps so that students are supported both inside and outside of lessons. My teaching style is calm, organised and ambitious, with a strong focus on building both academic skills and long-term confidence.

Whether students are aiming to improve confidence, secure top grades or refine high-level analytical skills, my lessons are designed to provide clear structure, measurable progress and lasting academic success.
