About Rael
I am a 30 year old native English speaker from Cape Town, South Africa. I have 2 degrees, a B.Sc majoring in Maths and Economics, and a Postgraduate degree in Pure Maths at the University in Cape Town: currently ranked 184th best in the world. I have worked for 6 years in finance as a quantitative financial trader at a high-frequency arbitrage desk. I have since recently retired to write a long fantasy book, and I am tutoring here to earn some supplementary income while I write the book. My reason for returning to tutoring is that I have extensive prior experience (7 years) of tutoring during high-school, university and immediately after university; and I genuinely have a passion for providing the absolute highest standard of teaching. It also allows me to think about and research the subjects further which, as said, I have a genuine passion and interest for. My driving force in tutoring is ultimately to be the teacher I wish I had myself!

I only teach what I genuinely love learning about myself and have studied extensively. I try my best to share with students why the material is not only true, but beautiful in a sense. The beauty and magic, however, only arises from understanding the first principles of a subject. That is precisely my strength, I don't just know the subject matter in memory, I have a strong intuitive grasp of the principles behind most of that which other teachers have simply rote memorised. The other unique aspect of my tutoring is a devotion to learning principles in a genuinely fun and interesting way often using real-life motivating examples. The actual historical order of invention is a motivating problem leading to a solution. I firmly believe almost all educators mistakenly reverse this order!
