About Steven

I played the piano since I was five years old, and the violin since I was six. I chose the violin to be my main instrument when I was 13, but I have kept playing piano. I was in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras throughout my youth, and attending the Music Institute of Chicago Academy Program for five years, which trains pre-professional musicians. From there, I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Violin Performance at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, and a Master's Degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music. I am currently pursuing a Master of Musical Arts Degree at the Yale School of Music. I have had experience in every musical setting - soloist, chamber, orchestral, accompaniment, and have a broad knowledge of basic musical structures of theory and music history.

About the lesson

I am a believer in always developing and nurturing the fundamentals. I work with basics such as open strings, finger dexterity exercises, to scales and etudes. This should always be balanced with repertoire. The repertoire should be challenging enough so the student is always progressing, but never overbearing. I work to develop the student's musical tastes through a variety of repertoire. I hope to broaden the student's musical pallet through the understanding of music theory and different musical styles, while always maintaining the integrity and personality of the student.

I teach beginners, to intermediate players, to advanced players. Regardless of level, there is always something to learn or continue developing/maintaining. My goal is to help the student understand the reasons and method behind success, and to guide them through the process.

I am inspired by someone who has a passion for music, and a curiosity for learning. Dedication and hard work are undoubtedly very important factors, but I am very motivated by someone who has a burning passion for music.

My dream is to help the student unlock the doors and steps necessary to be able to best express themselves through music and their instrument.
