About Julia
I graduated in May of 2020 with a BA in English and Music from Samford University where I was a language lab instructor and tutor for the department of World Languages and Cultures. Over the past several years, I have worked to hone my own writing process into one that is comprehensible and approachable. Likewise, as a student of literature, I enjoy encountering texts from Beowulf to Woolf and Emerson to Eliot. I aim to imbue my students with that same enjoyment!
I am currently pursuing an MA in Medieval Studies from the Catholic University of America with primary interests in aesthetics and old languages such as Latin and Old English. I am working to gain a holistic understanding of pre-modern oral culture and the power of the word over time.

Since the written word often takes the place of face-to-face interaction, I urge students to write in the same way that they speak. This includes discussing ideas before and during the drafting process, reading aloud while revising, and paying close attention to the sound, rhythm, and length of each line. My primary objective is to remove the stress from writing and free students from worrying about the words on the page so they might focus, instead, on their ideas.
As literature is the soul of culture, I believe that it is important to situate texts within the historical settings and intellectual cultures that produced them. I aim to answer the "so what?" in every text and make the study of literature exciting and fulfilling for students of all ages.
